Bannvale Launches New Oil Buying Club at 3Sixteen

Deputy Mayor of Ballymena, Timothy Gaston, joined Raymond Gormley from Bryson Energy and a number of Board members from the Bannvale Credit Union, including Chairperson Carmel McLaron, Treasurer Liam O’Kane, Secretary Geraldine Donnelly, and Board members Gar McAtamney and Andrew McDonald to launch the Bannvale Credit Union Oil Buying Club.

The launch event was held at 3Sixteen in Portglenone and presented to an excited full house. Members will benefit from reduced costs of oil from the first oil buy at the beginning of May.

The Housing Executive and Bryson Energy are working in partnership with a number of community groups to establish a network of oil buying clubs across Northern Ireland.

A number of clubs have already been established, the most recent in Ahoghill, Bellaghy, Lavey and Portglenone.  The club is being managed by Bryson Energy through Bannvale Credit Union.

The Bannvale Credit Union Oil Buying Club, is open to everyone - Housing Executive tenants, housing association tenants, owner-occupiers and those who privately rent.  It’s free to join and members can expect typical savings between £10 and £30 on their orders.

Angela Hegarty of Bannvale Credit Union is pleased they have taken on the initiative saying:

“It is a simple premise; the more people buy oil together the more we can reduce the cost.  Each month a household can buy as little as 200 litres, when we put all of the orders together we can negotiate a better price and pass on the savings to all.”

The Housing Executive’s Energy Conservation Manager, Noel Rice, is delighted with the latest club to be founded commenting:

“The Housing Executive believes an oil buying club is an excellent way to help a household reduce the cost of oil, budget for more regular smaller deliveries and save.  I wish the Bannvale Credit Union Oil Buying Club every success.”

Meanwhile, Raymond Gormley from Bryson Energy said:

“Oil is the main fuel for almost 70% of homes in Northern Ireland and its price remains changeable.  We are delighted with the positive response from Bannvale Credit Union and look forward to organising the first fill at the beginning of May and for their local community seeing the benefits of collective oil buying.”
